What is Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder typically diagnosed in children. Children may struggle with social cues and communication, and will usually show repetitive interests or behaviors. More specific traits are avoiding eye contact, being uncomfortable around too many people (i.e., preferring to be alone), or struggling with change to daily routines. Children usually begin to show signs of autism around the age of 2 or 3, but children as young as 6 months old can also show signs. It’s best to note that not every child who exhibits these traits has autism. If you have concerns about your child being on the autism spectrum disorder, bring them to Pasitos Clinic so that we can help you and your child have a clearer understanding of their behavior.

The term “spectrum” is mentioned in the name because there are different levels of autism that require specific types of autism therapy services. There are 3 levels to this disorder.

  • Level 1– This level is considered “high-functioning.” Children who are diagnosed with this level tend to need the least amount of assistance. Any child that was diagnosed with Asperger’s or PDD-NOS would fit into this category.
  • Level 2- This level requires substantial support. A child may struggle with speech and other social impairments.
  • Level 3- This level is the most impairing level of autism. Children who are diagnosed with this level cannot live independently and require daily assistance.

Regardless of what level of autism your child is diagnosed with, we at Pasitos Clinic will make sure your little one is provided with the best autism therapy service there is to offer.

Autism Therapy Services

The autism therapy services Pasitos Clinic provides are behavioral, occupational, and speech. We understand how trigger-sensitive children with autism are, and that is why we perform these therapy sessions in the form of games or play. Every child is unique in their interests and hobbies. The experts at our El Paso clinic will execute an evaluation on your child to determine what the best approach is with our therapy.

Another great service we provide is helping the sibling of your diagnosed child understand what they are going through. The staff at Pasitos Clinic provides lessons to the brother or sister of the patient so that they know how to care for them. For your family to be as comfortable as possible, it is our goal to provide as much knowledge as possible regarding your child’s autism diagnosis.
